LINGERING, WITHIN THE BREATH, IT BECOMES A HUMMING VIBRATION

2014

Video installation for stage, 28 mins 18 sec.

Sound recordings from an opera rehearsal have been transcribed and turned into a silent, text-based video, which is projected onto an empty opera stage. The audience number is small, and the visitors are placed shoulder to shoulder in the middle of the dark auditorium, surrounded by empty rows of chairs. What is left of the opera is a minimal, fragmented narrative that speaks about vocality, while at the same time the minimal sounds in the space are highlighted: the faint buzzing from the projector, creaking sounds from the walls, a cough, or the sound of someone adjusting their position.
